WE291 is a short-throw lens for the 0.65/0.66/0.67 panel group (Barco), with a 0.5–0.6:1 throw ratio and lens shift. It fits 7 models across 2 model series. This article lays out the lens specifications, installation distances, model compatibility list, and replacement notes all in one place.

Shift capability is the key differentiator of this lens. The shift range of ±35% horizontal and ±10% vertical means the projector can be installed off the screen centerline and the image can be shifted back into place through lens shift, without resorting to keystone correction. Keystone correction comes at a price — every level of correction sacrifices part of the effective pixels and blurs text edges. In professional installations, wherever lens shift can solve the problem, keystone correction should never be used; this is the baseline for image quality.
2. Converting Throw Ratio into Installation Distance
The throw ratio is the ratio of the installation distance to the image width. This lens is a zoom lens (0.5–0.6:1), so a single image size corresponds to a range of distances, and the image can be focused anywhere within that range during installation.
| Image Size | Image Width | Required Installation Distance |
|---|---|---|
| 100 inches | 2.15 m | approx. 1.07 – 1.29 m |
| 120 inches | 2.58 m | approx. 1.29 – 1.55 m |
| 150 inches | 3.22 m | approx. 1.61 – 1.93 m |
| 200 inches | 4.30 m | approx. 2.15 – 2.58 m |
The above is the net distance from the front of the lens to the screen and does not allow for rear cooling space or cabling clearance on the projector body. Calculated on a 16:10 image format; actual on-site measurements and the user manual shall prevail.
Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: closer to the near end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; closer to the far end, the edges are sharper and brightness drops slightly. Where the venue allows, it is recommended to place the lens in the middle of the range. After installation, first find the sharpest position on the focus ring, then fine-tune the shift — adjusting both variables at once makes it very hard to dial in.
3. Compatible Models (7 units, Barco)
The table below is arranged from newest to oldest by model production date and includes the resolution, brightness, and zoom ratio of the original standard lens for each model, so you can quickly locate the right option for project requirements.
| Model | Brightness | Resolution | Zoom Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| G62‑W14 | 14000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| G62‑W11 | 11000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| G60‑W7 | 7000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| G50‑W6 | 6000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| G62‑W9 | 9000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| G50‑W8 | 8000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| G50‑W7 | 7000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
The zoom ratio refers to the zoom factor of the original standard lens of that model (upper limit ÷ lower limit of the original throw ratio range), not the zoom range of the lens described in this article.
Common Traits of This Model Group
The original standard lenses of these 7 models mostly have throw ratios concentrated around 1.22-1.52:1. The 0.5–0.6:1 ratio of the model in this article is equivalent to adjusting the focal segment, allowing different image sizes from the same projection distance — which is precisely the direct reason for replacing the lens; at the same time, full shift capability is retained, so the image can still be aligned after the focal segment is adjusted.
4. Three Things to Confirm Before Replacement
- Panel and resolution must match. This model is designed for a 0.67 inch panel. Projectors with a different panel size or a different resolution will show somewhat different projection performance, so checking against the nameplate on the projector body before installation is the safest approach.
- Interface and locking structure.Interfaces are generally well compatible within the same platform generation, but the position of the locking latch differs between generations. If the image appears skewed or the edges are not sharp after installation, this is most often because the lock has not fully engaged, not a problem with the lens itself.
- Factor the shift margin into the installation. The shift range leaves some installation margin, but when pushed to the limit, edge image quality declines; it is recommended to keep actual use within 70% of the rated value.
For models outside the list, it is safer to send us the nameplate on the projector body and a photo of the original lens for verification — same-generation platforms often share interfaces, but the risk of placing an order based on a similar model number is not worth taking.
