The WD487 is a short-throw lens with a 0.35:1 throw ratio for the 0.65/0.66/0.67 panel group (Ricoh). It is compatible with 10 models across 2 model series. This guide brings together the lens specifications, installation distance, model compatibility list, and key replacement considerations.
1. Lens Specifications
| Model | WD487 |
| Internal Model | D48-050 |
| Series | WD Series |
| Throw Ratio | 0.35:1 |
| Lens Shift | Vertical -2% ~ +3% |
| Compatible Panel | 0.67 inches |
| Compatible Models | 10 Models / 2 Model Series |
| Warranty | 12 months; non-accidental damage is eligible for after-sales service, based on the date on the shipping invoice |
2. Calculating Installation Distance from Throw Ratio
Throw ratio is the ratio of installation distance to image width. This lens has a fixed focus (0.35:1), so the installation distance varies linearly with image size, with no adjustment range. Accurate measurements are essential before installation.
| Image Size | Image Width | Required Installation Distance |
|---|---|---|
| 100 inches | 2.15 m | Approx. 0.75 m |
| 120 inches | 2.58 m | Approx. 0.90 m |
| 150 inches | 3.22 m | Approx. 1.13 m |
| 200 inches | 4.30 m | Approx. 1.50 m |
The figures above represent the clear distance from the front surface of the lens to the screen and do not account for space required for rear chassis ventilation and cable connections. They are calculated for a 16:10 image; actual distances should be verified on site and against the manual.
3. Compatible Models (10 Models, Ricoh)
The table below is ordered from newest to oldest by model production launch date and lists each model’s resolution, brightness, and zoom ratio for the factory-standard lens, enabling quick selection according to project requirements.
| Model | Brightness | Resolution | Zoom Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| PJ RU6608L | 8000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| PJ RU6605L | 8000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| WUL6670 | 8000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| WUL71114 | 14000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| WUL71110 | 11000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| PJ RU11000 | 11000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| PJ RU9600 | 9500 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| PJ LU7080 | 8000 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| PJ LU7000 | 7500 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
| PJ RU6600L | 6500 lumens | WUXGA 1920×1200 | 1.25X |
The zoom ratio is the zoom factor of the factory-standard lens for that model (upper ÷ lower limits of its factory throw ratio range), not the zoom range of the lens described in this article.
Factory Lens Model Options
Among these models, 2 models support factory lenses. The corresponding throw ratios are listed below for comparison with the factory configuration.
Ricoh Factory Lens
| Factory Lens Model | Throw Ratio |
|---|---|
| A3A | 1.22-1.52 |
The WD487’s 0.35:1 throw ratio is the closest match to the focal range of the factory A3A (1.22-1.52) lens, enabling direct comparison and selection.
Common Features of These Models
The factory-standard lenses for these 10 models generally have throw ratios concentrated in the 1.22-1.52:1 range. The WD487’s 0.35:1 throw ratio effectively provides a different focal range, allowing a different image size from the same projection distance—the direct reason for replacing the lens. It also retains full lens-shift capability, so the image can still be aligned after adjusting the focal range.
4. Three Checks Before Replacement
- Match the panel and resolution. This model is designed for a 0.67-inch panel. Projectors with a different panel size or resolution may show differences in projection performance, so it is safest to verify the specifications against the nameplate on the projector before installation.
- Check the lens mount and locking mechanism. Mount compatibility is generally good within the same platform generation, but the locking latch position differs between generations. If the image is skewed or the edges appear soft, the lock is usually not fully engaged rather than the lens itself being faulty.
- A fixed-focus lens has no zoom adjustment. Image size can be changed only by moving the projector. The venue dimensions must be measured accurately in advance, leaving an additional 10–20 cm beyond the calculated endpoints.
For compatibility with models not listed here, the safest approach is to send us the projector nameplate and a photo of the original lens for verification. Same-generation platforms often share the same mount, but it is not worth the risk of placing an order based only on a similar model number.
