Sony Genuine Lens VPLL-Z8014 is an OEM optical accessory for Sony professional projectors. It is a long-throw lens with a 1.40-2.73:1 throw ratio for GTZ-series panels (inches). The official compatibility list covers 1 model, so verify the projector model and panel size before installation; there is no need to make do with adapter rings. The value of a genuine lens lies not in the extra figures in the specification sheet, but in the fact that it is calibrated at the factory to the optical path and mount of projectors in that series: once installed, the image circle, edge illumination, and focus travel all match the design values, so there is no need to use keystone correction to compensate for image quality.

These specifications are subject to the manufacturer's official specifications. For mechanical dimensions, flange distance, and mount type not shown in the specification table, please provide the projector model so we can verify the details. Ordering based on a similar model alone carries the risk that the lens will not fit.
2. Calculating Installation Distance from Throw Ratio
The throw ratio is the ratio of installation distance to image width. This genuine lens is a zoom lens (1.40-2.73:1), so a given image size corresponds to a range of distances, and the lens can be focused at any distance within that range.
| Image Size | Image Width | Required Installation Distance |
|---|---|---|
| 100 inches | 2.15 m | approx. 3.01 – 5.87 m |
| 120 inches | 2.58 m | approx. 3.61 – 7.04 m |
| 150 inches | 3.22 m | approx. 4.51 – 8.80 m |
| 200 inches | 4.30 m | approx. 6.02 – 11.74 m |
These figures represent the clear distance from the front surface of the lens to the screen and do not include ventilation or cable-management space behind the projector. They are calculated for a 16:10 image aspect ratio; actual distances should be confirmed through on-site measurements and the manufacturer's manual.
Image quality differs at the two ends of the zoom range: near the short end, the image is brighter and the edges are slightly softer; near the long end, the edges are sharper and brightness decreases slightly. When the venue allows, use the middle of the range. After installation, first find the sharpest setting on the focus ring, and then fine-tune the lens shift.
3. Compatible Models (1 model)
The table below is reproduced from the official compatibility list. Brightness and resolution are populated from the model database; entries that cannot be retrieved are marked with — and are not estimated.
| Model | Brightness | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| VPL-GTZ380 | 10000 lumens | 4K, 4096 x 2160 |
To verify whether a model outside the list can be used, please send us photos of the projector nameplate and current lens. Platforms of the same generation often share the same mount, but ordering based on a similar model alone is not worth the risk.
Throw Ratio by Model Series
The nominal throw ratio of the same VPLL-Z8014 lens varies by projector series. For selection, use the value corresponding to the actual projector series.
| Model Series | Throw Ratio |
|---|---|
| — | 1.40-2.73:1 |
4. Three Checks Before Replacement
- The panel size must match. VPLL-Z8014 is designed for GTZ-series panels (inches). Even if the lens mount fits, projectors with a different panel size or resolution may experience problems with image circle coverage and edge illumination.
- Calculate the installation distance first. This lens has a nominal throw ratio of 1.40-2.73:1. Use the table in Section 2 to calculate the required distance based on your venue dimensions. A prime lens offers no adjustment margin, while a zoom lens should still leave 10–20 cm of margin at both ends.
- Verify the mount and locking mechanism. The genuine lens is calibrated to the mount used on projectors in this series. After installation, you must hear the lock engage fully. A skewed image or soft edges are usually caused by incomplete locking, not by a lens defect.
If you are uncertain, take one photo of each nameplate—the projector nameplate and the lens nameplate—and send them to us. Checking the actual items is the safest approach.
